Seismic Analysis using IBC 2006

At this moment, NSCP seismic provision is based from UBC 1997. One major reason is that we have no several values of spectral acceleration being published by PHIVOLCS for ASEP use or say from whoever required institution. Unlike in USA, they have vast collections of maps of spectral acceleration on each states. However, there is possibility that NSCP in the future might also transition to this. That is, the zone factor of Z=0.4 in major portion of the Philippines will be replaced by many values of spectral acceleration to be used in seismic design.

In order to learn how to use this, study the spreadsheet by DOWNLOADING NOW.

Wind Load Determination

Philippines is both a typhoon and earthquake prone country. That is, wind load determination is part of structural design. NSCP patterned the provision from ASCE 7-05.
Download NOW the spreadsheet and study now to understand the provisions in the code. Great reference for aspiring structural engineers.

Lateral Force from Earthquake

As a civil engineer, we are often asked how big the coming earthquake will be from BIG ONE generated by Marikina Valley Fault line. We are bound to follow what is stated in the code NSCP which is patterned after UBC 1997 from US. Know the magnitude of lateral force from the earthquake using this spreadsheet. Download NOW.

Development Length of Rebars

Learn to compute for development length of rebar to be use in lap splicing, and hook at beam to column connection. Use of this spreadsheet will help you determine proper splice length and compliance to the code NSCP or ACI. Very good reference for structural engineers! Download here.

Seismic and Wind Design of Concrete Building

Reading this book and applying the methods here is like designing for buildings under our NSCP code. Although the author uses IBC, as opposed to NSCP following UBC 1997, the design procedure and concrete provision explained in the book is very similar to NSCP.

Steel Section Provision in NSCP from AISC

For the steel provision in NSCP, they were all referenced from AISC. Previously, the old NSCP is referencing the ASD version of AISC code. Today, the AISC has come up with the combined treatment of both ASD and LRFD in the code.

Concrete Provisions in NSCP

The NSCP code is patterned after many international codes. One of which is the provision in the concrete which is referenced from ACI 318-08.

Thus, to better understand the NSCP Section 4, it is adviseable to read ACI 318. Unlike the NSCP, it has commentaries adjacent to the provision described each page. The commentaries will further state how each provision is made up.
