Design of Reinforced Concrete Building According to NSCP

This slide shows a general outline of procedure to design a building according to NSCP.

The outline of presentation is below:
  1. Reclassification of structures
    • School building for example is now under Essential facilities because it is used as evacuation center. Increase in importance factor will increase the base shear the building is designed.
  2. Review of loading requirements and changes
    • A kd factor in wind loading is now included. Zoning of Wind map for Philippines is not only shown in the map but is now tabulated to avoid confusion.
  3. Design Criteria
  4. Sample Problem Structural Systems
  5. P Delta effects and maximum inelastic drift
  6. Loading combinations
  7. Design of Beams
  8. Design of Columns
  9. Design of Shear walls
  10. Scaling of static and dynamic base shear

Concrete Provisions in NSCP

The NSCP code is patterned after many international codes. One of which is the provision in the concrete which is referenced from ACI 318-08.

Thus, to better understand the NSCP Section 4, it is adviseable to read ACI 318. Unlike the NSCP, it has commentaries adjacent to the provision described each page. The commentaries will further state how each provision is made up.
